The new opera by legendary composer Philip Glass, titled “Circus Days and Nights,” introduces a novel form. It combines a live opera, a circus performance, and an immersive video art installation, featuring spectacular visual elements new to the opera stage.
The inspiration for this opera comes from Robert Lax’s masterwork, “Circus Days and Nights,” a poetry collection exploring the poet’s fascination with the circus and its lifestyle as he traveled with a circus in the 1940s. For Lax, the circus serves as a metaphor for life itself, encompassing human yearning, striving, and a celebration of creation.
