Circus Days & Nights

INTERACTIVE OPERA — IN DEVELOPMENT

CLIENT.     PHILIP GLASS / PONT-NEUF

ROLE.     CREATIVE & TECH CONSULTING

CONTEXT.

A new opera by Philip Glass, based on the poetry of Robert Lax, directed by Tilde Björfors (Cirkus Cirkör), with visual design by Mat Collishaw and a libretto by David Henry Hwang. The work explores the circus as a metaphor for the cosmos — cycles of creation and destruction, performers as elemental forces, the ring as a threshold between the tangible and the transcendent.

APPROACH.

I was brought in to bridge the creative vision with emerging technologies. My role: introducing all key contributors — circus director, visual artist, set designer — to what real-time interactive systems could bring to the piece, and designing the foundational principles that define how the performers’ bodies, the music, and the visual world would speak to one another on stage.

This meant working across disciplines — translating artistic intuitions into technical frameworks, and technical possibilities into creative provocations. Early-stage concept development, animation principles, interaction scenarios, and starting points designed to spark iteration among the collaborators.
